I’m Steve “WheelchairSteve” Wilkinson, a successful inspirational and motivational speaker.
I was born with Spina Bifida in 1953 and have used a wheelchair most of my life. Most of my Early Years were spent in hospital. I started school aged 8. Passing my 11+ exam meant I could go to a Grammar School. No local school would take me due to my disability!
I inherited my “can do” attitude from my parents, Joyce and Tommy, who were determined to persuade the local education authority to give me a trial at George Stephenson Grammar School, which was less than a mile from home. They agreed, and I’ve never looked back!
There I passed ‘O’ and ‘A’ Levels and went on the Newcastle University, where I graduated with a B.Sc. in Computational Mathematics.
A career in I.T. followed for the next 30 years, but I was always itching to run my own business. I wanted to make a difference in the
World by sharing my life experiences with other people to help them overcome the challenges they face and to make the World more accessible for other wheelchair users and people who, like me, have non-standard access needs.
If you’d like me to inspire the children at your school or motivate members of your organisation by hearing my story and to take action to make a positive difference, please contact me today.
My motto in relation to overcoming life’s challenges is:
If I Can, So Can You!
