5th Annual International Wheelchair Day – Thursday 1 March 2012

Originally launched by Steve “WheelchairSteve” Wilkinson on 1 March 2008 to commemorate the birthday of his late mother, Joyce, this annual event is now established as a day of celebration and reflection for wheelchair users, and their families, friends and carers, all over the World.

It is a day when wheelchair users can celebrate the positive impact a wheelchair has had on their lives, but also to reflect on the daily challenges it creates where barriers exist.

It’s also a day when everyone’s thoughts should be directed to appreciate there are tens of millions of people in the World who need a wheelchair and are unable to acquire one. What can you do about this?

Events are being planned around the World and we encourage groups and individuals everywhere to consider how you might celebrate the 5th Anniversary International Wheelchair Day on Thursday 1 March.

Please contact us if  you are planning an event. We’ll publish details on this site and it may inspire others to organise something similar in their area.

Thank you

Steve
